Biography
Gorr watched his mother die, his wife die and his children starve on a world that punished him for believing anyone was listening. When two gods crash-landed near him — one dying, one begging — he learned that gods existed, had always existed, and had simply never cared. He picked up the weapon lying beside them, All-Black the Necrosword, and began the longest, most methodical killing spree in the Marvel Universe.
That is why he is the best Thor villain of the modern era. Gorr does not want the throne, the hammer or Asgard; he wants an end to worship, and he has a point. Jason Aaron ran him across three eras of Thor's life simultaneously — young, prime and King Thor at the end of time — building toward the God Bomb, a device designed to kill every god who has ever existed or will exist. Taika Waititi's film softened him considerably. The comic version is a genuine horror story about faith that never answers back.

Comics history
Jason Aaron and Esad Ribić introduced Gorr in Thor: God of Thunder (2013), and the God Butcher and Godbomb arcs are regularly ranked among the best Thor stories ever published. The structure — three Thors, three timeframes, one killer — set the tone for Aaron's entire seven-year run.
The Necrosword outlived him and mattered enormously afterwards: it was revealed as a piece of Knull, the symbiote god, tying Gorr directly into the King in Black mythology and eventually into the hands of King Thanos and Venom. Gorr's ideas kept resurfacing too, in the God Quarry and in later Thor stories about what gods actually owe their believers.

Why does Gorr kill gods?
