The story

CONFIRMED: Vision Quest premieres on Disney+ on 14 October 2026, created and written by Terry Matalas of Star Trek: Picard. Paul Bettany returns as the White Vision who flew away at the end of WandaVision, and Marvel has confirmed James Spader's return as Ultron alongside James D'Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y. and Faran Tahir reprising Raza from Iron Man. Bettany has described the series as Vision seeking his humanity and reconstructing his memory after Westview.

REPORTED, NOT CONFIRMED: The episode count has not been announced, and Marvel has not confirmed whether Elizabeth Olsen appears in any capacity — despite persistent reporting that the series completes a WandaVision trilogy alongside Agatha All Along. Claims about Ultron's form, the extent of the J.A.R.V.I.S. and F.R.I.D.A.Y. roles, and any connection to Simon Williams in Wonder Man are unconfirmed. Treat all of it as unverified until Marvel says otherwise.

Easter eggs

  • James Spader returning as Ultron is his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, eleven years earlier.
  • James D'Arcy played Edwin Jarvis in Agent Carter, and casting him as the J.A.R.V.I.S. AI closes a loop the MCU has left open since 2008.
  • Faran Tahir's Raza is the Ten Rings commander from 2008's Iron Man, an eighteen-year-old thread being picked up.
  • White Vision's departure at the end of WandaVision, with memories restored but no emotional attachment, is the exact situation the series opens on.
  • Terry Matalas showran Star Trek: Picard's third season, widely praised for using legacy characters without collapsing into nostalgia — a strong signal for what Marvel wants here.
  • Simon Williams' brain patterns are the basis of the Vision's mind in the comics, and Wonder Man aired nine months earlier.

Trivia

  • Production began in spring 2025, making it one of Marvel's longer-gestating Disney+ projects.
  • Terry Matalas created, wrote and directed, an unusually concentrated arrangement for a Marvel series.
  • It is understood to complete an informal WandaVision trilogy after Agatha All Along, though Marvel has not framed it that way officially.
  • Paul Bettany has played Vision or J.A.R.V.I.S. in the MCU since 2008, one of the longest continuous runs of any actor in the franchise.
  • Marvel confirmed the 14 October 2026 date at New York Comic Con.
  • It is one of only two Marvel Disney+ titles dated for 2026, alongside Wonder Man's January premiere.

Reviews

The MarvelGossips verdict

Unreleased at the time of writing. On paper it is the most promising Marvel series in years: a WandaVision follow-up from the showrunner who made Picard's last season work, built around the franchise's most underused tragic figure. Spader's return alone justifies the attention. The risk is a nostalgia parade where a character study should be.

Frequently asked

When does Vision Quest premiere?
14 October 2026 on Disney+, confirmed by Marvel. It is the second and final Marvel Disney+ title of 2026 after Wonder Man in January.
Is Elizabeth Olsen in Vision Quest?
Marvel has not confirmed her involvement. Wanda's fate has been left ambiguous since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and any reported appearance should be treated as unverified.
Is Ultron really coming back?
Yes. Marvel has confirmed James Spader reprising Ultron, his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. The form he takes has not been announced.
Do I need to watch WandaVision first?
Yes. The series begins from White Vision's departure at the end of WandaVision, with his memories restored but his emotional attachment to Wanda absent, and that premise is the whole show.
