The Alleged 2028-29 Marvel Slate: What Is Reported, What Is Leaked, And What Is Neither

There is a category of Marvel coverage that sits in an odd grey zone: not quite a leak, not quite a report, and presented with a confidence neither status earns. The alleged 2028-29 slate is the clearest current example. Four dates circulate. Four projects are attached to them. And an enormous amount of downstream speculation treats the whole arrangement as settled.

It is not settled. Here is what is actually known, what is reported, and where the genuinely unverifiable material begins.

The Three Tiers, Kept Separate

Almost all confusion in this area comes from collapsing tiers two and three. The dates themselves have circulated widely enough and consistently enough to be worth noting - they sit in the release corridors Marvel habitually uses, and studios genuinely do hold calendar slots years in advance. The project names attached to them are a different order of claim entirely.

The Reported Dates And Their Attachments

Each of these is individually plausible. First Steps was Marvel's best 2025 performer at $519.1 million worldwide and 87%, so a sequel is a reasonable expectation. Black Panther is a foundational property. Multiverse of Madness left threads. Deadpool is the studio's most reliable non-Avengers earner after Deadpool & Wolverine.

But plausibility is exactly what makes this category dangerous. A claim that matches what you already expect is the hardest kind to interrogate, and every one of these four does.

The most persuasive unverified claims are the ones you would have guessed anyway. That is not corroboration - it is coincidence wearing a badge.

Why A 2029 Slate Cannot Be Locked Right Now

1. Avengers: Secret Wars arrives 17 December 2027, framed by Kevin Feige as the end of the Multiverse Saga and a franchise reset. What survives that film shapes everything after it.
2. Casting for those films largely does not exist yet. Secret Wars itself has exactly one publicly confirmed cast member, Robert Downey Jr.
3. The X-Men on 15 Dec 2028 has zero casting announced, and Marvel is reportedly pursuing largely unknown young actors - a slow process.
4. The financial environment is still moving. Budget decisions for 2029 films are not being made against 2026 assumptions.
5. Marvel has demonstrably moved major dates twice in the last two years. Nothing on a 2029 calendar is fixed in any meaningful sense.

That last point is the practical one. Doomsday moved from 1 May 2026 to 18 December 2026 and Secret Wars from 7 May 2027 to 17 December 2027 - covered in our piece on the shift. If dates eighteen months out can move by seven months, dates three years out are placeholders.

The Leak Claims Specifically, And Why They Fail

Beyond the dates, a steady stream of alleged detail circulates - directors, plot directions, casting, connective tissue. We would discard essentially all of it, for the same structural reasons we applied to the Doomsday set-photo material.

• It arrives as complete documents. Real internal planning is iterative and fragmentary; a clean multi-year slate list is a written artefact, not a leaked one.
• It is unfalsifiable on a three-year horizon. Nobody will check in 2029, and if a date moves the claim can be recast as a change of plan.
• The sourcing chains resolve to other posts. Trace them and you reach an aggregator, not a person.
• It frequently contradicts itself across versions, with different lists circulating simultaneously under the same claimed origin.
• It rarely includes anything genuinely surprising, which is the opposite of what real information looks like.

What Is Genuinely Undecided

The honest gaps are more interesting than the invented answers. Blade has no date and no director, is reportedly shelved indefinitely and has not been formally cancelled, with Mahershala Ali nominally attached - the fullest account is in our status piece. Whether it lands in one of these slots is completely unknown.

Nothing at all is announced for 2027 beyond Secret Wars in December, which leaves an entire year of theatrical calendar unaddressed. And the whole shape of the post-reset universe is contingent on a film that has one confirmed cast member and eighteen months to go, as we set out in our casting audit.

The only Marvel release beyond 2027 that anyone can currently point to with certainty is The X-Men on 15 December 2028, with Jake Schreier directing and Michael Lesslie writing. Everything else in that window is, at best, a date somebody is holding.
