The Marvel Roadmap, Mid-2026: Every Confirmed Date And Every Reported-Only Slot
Two films in 2026, one in 2027, one in 2028 - and a set of 2028-29 dates that are reported rather than announced. The complete, honestly-labelled state of the Marvel slate.

Marvel's schedule has been rearranged enough over the last two years that a lot of published roadmaps are quietly wrong. This one separates what Marvel has actually announced from what is merely reported, because the difference is doing a great deal of work and almost nobody flags it.
Confirmed And Dated
| Title | Date | Format | Key confirmed detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spider-Man: Brand New Day | 31 Jul 2026 | Theatrical | Destin Daniel Cretton; Holland, Zendaya, Batalon, Sink, Bernthal, Ruffalo, Mando, Tillman |
| Vision Quest | 14 Oct 2026 | Disney+ | Terry Matalas; Bettany, Spader as Ultron, D'Arcy |
| Avengers: Doomsday | 18 Dec 2026 | Theatrical | Russos; RDJ as Doctor Doom; ~30-name cast |
| Avengers: Secret Wars | 17 Dec 2027 | Theatrical | Russos; RDJ only confirmed cast member |
| The X-Men | 15 Dec 2028 | Theatrical | Jake Schreier directs, Michael Lesslie writes; no casting |
That is the whole confirmed theatrical slate. Four films across two and a half years, plus one dated series. Compared to the release cadence of 2021 through 2023, it is a dramatic contraction, and it is the most concrete evidence available that the studio has responded to the financial picture we set out in our box office analysis.
Reported-Only Slots
The following dates circulate widely and are frequently presented as slate items. They are reported rather than announced, and the projects attached to them are unconfirmed.
| Reported date | Reported project | Confirmation status |
|---|---|---|
| 5 May 2028 | Fantastic Four 2 | Reported only |
| 28 Jul 2028 | Black Panther 3 | Reported only |
| 4 May 2029 | Doctor Strange 3 | Reported only |
| 13 Jul 2029 | Deadpool 4 | Reported only |
We audited the leak material circulating around those dates in our piece on the slate claims, and the sourcing is uniformly poor. The dates themselves are plausible - they sit in the corridors Marvel habitually uses - but plausibility is not confirmation.
The Big Schedule Moves You Need To Know
- Avengers: Doomsday moved from 1 May 2026 to 18 December 2026, a shift of roughly seven months into the holiday corridor.
- Avengers: Secret Wars moved from 7 May 2027 to 17 December 2027, preserving the twelve-month gap between the two.
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day held 31 July 2026 and did not move.
- The X-Men holds 15 December 2028, now a full year clear of Secret Wars rather than in its immediate wake.
The reasoning behind the Avengers moves is covered in our detailed piece on the shift. The short version: December multipliers, a roughly thirty-name ensemble that genuinely needed the post-production time, and a softer box office environment that made May look crowded.
The Undated And The Stalled
- Blade - no date, no director, reportedly shelved indefinitely, not formally cancelled. Mahershala Ali nominally attached. Detailed in our status piece.
- Daredevil: Born Again season 3 - greenlit, no date announced.
- Wonder Man season 2 - renewed, no date announced.
- X-Men '97 season 3 - confirmed, no date announced.
- Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 - autumn 2026, no specific date announced.
- Ironheart, Echo, Secret Invasion, Marvel Zombies - no continuations announced.
The Blade situation is the most instructive of these, and we went through it in our status report. The full television picture is in our Disney+ status board, which is the healthier half of the company's output right now.
What The Shape Of This Tells You
Read as a strategy document rather than a calendar, the slate says three things fairly clearly.
First, Marvel has consolidated around events. Two of the four confirmed films are Avengers films, and both sit in December. The studio has effectively conceded that its non-event films need to justify themselves individually and has stopped scheduling them at volume - the lesson of Thunderbolts* taking $382.4 million on an 88% score and still losing money.
Second, Spider-Man remains the load-bearing property. Brand New Day is the only non-Avengers theatrical release confirmed across three years, which is a remarkable statement of where the studio believes its reliable revenue sits.
Third, everything after December 2027 is conditional. The X-Men is dated but uncast, and the four 2028-29 slots are unconfirmed. That is not disorganisation - it is a studio declining to commit past the point where Secret Wars reshapes the board. Kevin Feige has framed that film as the end of the Multiverse Saga and a genuine reset, examined in our piece on it, and you do not announce a 2029 slate before you know what a 2027 reset leaves you with.
There is one further wrinkle worth naming. A roadmap this sparse concentrates risk in a way the 2019-era schedule never did: with four confirmed theatrical titles across three years, a single underperformance now moves the entire narrative around the studio, because there is no follow-up eight weeks later to change the subject. That is the trade Marvel has accepted in exchange for fewer, better-supported releases, and it is the reason release-week tracking numbers are being scrutinised far more closely than they were three years ago.
The Next Confirmed Milestone
Everything currently runs through Friday. Brand New Day opens 31 July 2026 tracking for a $180M+ domestic debut, and its result sets the tone for the December campaign. After that: Vision Quest on 14 October, Doomsday on 18 December, and then a full year of nothing theatrical until December 2027.
That 2027 gap is the most striking single feature of this roadmap, and Marvel has not announced anything to fill it. Whether that is deliberate breathing room or a hole that gets filled later is the open question of the next twelve months.
