Every Real Place Spider-Man: Brand New Day Was Filmed

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in the US on 31 July 2026, and unlike most of what's been written about it this week, none of what follows is a spoiler. Marvel and Sony shot the film from 3 August to 19 December 2025, entirely in the UK, in locations running from a Scottish city rebuilt as New York to an English business park dressed as 1970s Manhattan. Here's everywhere it was actually filmed, and what local reporting caught happening while cameras rolled.

Glasgow Was Turned Into New York City

The biggest location by far was Glasgow, where production spent weeks redressing real streets as New York. Trade outlet ScreenDaily described "American flags popping up as Glasgow is transformed into New York," and the Scottish Daily Express reported streets "blocked off... transformed to look like New York City" — the latest in a run of blockbusters to use the city as a stand-in, following World War Z and Fast & Furious 6. Crews dressed the streets with NYPD patrol cars, fire trucks, yellow taxis and US flags, according to both outlets.

Glasgow Life, the city council's own arts and events body, listed the confirmed shoot streets as Trongate, Wilson Street, Bell Street, Candleriggs, Hutcheson Street, Brunswick Street, Glassford Street and Ingram Street, with the main Merchant City unit filming across 13–14 August 2025. AOL reported two further streets, Bothwell Street and Wellington Street, signed with fictional names — "Frost Street" and "Franklin Street" — for the shoot. The BBC later reported closures extended to 26 August, adding Cochrane Street, John Street, South Frederick Street and Montrose Street.

What Was Actually Being Filmed

Trailer footage geolocated by The Scotsman ties specific Glasgow streets to specific shots: Spider-Man swinging past a building modelled on Bothwell Street's Aurora building while dodging a tank, a sequence on Hutcheson Street where he's struck by a truck driven by Jon Bernthal's Punisher, identifiable by nearby street art, and a vehicle chase on St Vincent Street near the real restaurant Little Tuscany.

That wasn't an exaggeration about the crowd. The BBC reported roughly 100 spectators turned out for a single stunt shoot, consistent with the tank sequence Holland is describing and the one The Scotsman later identified on Bothwell Street in the trailer.

It Wasn't Universally Popular With Residents

Local coverage didn't stop at the spectacle. AOL's report on the shoot detailed a roughly two-week closure of Bothwell Street, bus route diversions, complaints about lost disabled parking, noise complaints, and hospitality workers reporting uncompensated lost shifts. A council spokesperson pointed to a "feel-good factor" and the city's broader filming-tourism strategy; Councillor Robert Mooney publicly questioned the timing of the closures. Not every account was negative — Scott Thornton, chair of the Merchant City & Trongate Community Council, told AOL local reaction had generally been positive. The council also cited an estimated £500 million in cumulative economic impact from film and TV production in Glasgow over the past 25 years.

A Stunt Pause, Then Basingstoke's Turn as 1970s New York

Production paused in mid-to-late September 2025 after Tom Holland was involved in a stunt mishap during a UK shoot and was briefly hospitalised as a precaution, according to the BBC, AOL and Malay Mail — the same incident referenced, without further detail, in Marvel's own production trivia for the film. Holland returned to set roughly a week later, around 28–29 September, for filming in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

The Basingstoke shoot centred on Fanum House on Basing View, where the BBC and AOL reported a sequence with Spider-Man tethered by webbing to a moving armoured vehicle and dragged through an underpass filled with black smoke, plus a truck crashing through a set of gates past armed extras. AOL reported the area toward Mountbatten House had been dressed as "1970s New York," complete with blue screens and period-style NYC signage — the most specific evidence yet that at least part of the film includes a period-set sequence, though Marvel and Sony haven't explained why.

Pinewood, Surrey, London and Dorchester — The Shorter Stops

Pinewood Studios hosted pre-production and interior soundstage work, per ScreenDaily, though which sets were built there hasn't been made public. Production also filmed in London, and listed Surrey among its UK locations, though we haven't found scene-specific detail for either beyond the general confirmation. Destin Daniel Cretton has also referenced location shooting in New York itself alongside the UK work; we don't have scene-specific detail on any New York filming beyond that reference, and it isn't reflected in the location-by-location reporting above.

Dorchester is the least confirmed stop on the list. Local outlet Dorset Echo reported "suspected filming" in the Dorset area on its official account; more specific claims about a prison location or particular scenes come only from fan-tracker social accounts, not from any trade press we could verify. Treat Dorchester as reported but unconfirmed until a primary source details it.
