Villain profile
Electro
Maxwell Dillon
A lineman who got hit by lightning and finally felt important.
Biography
Max Dillon was an electrical lineman who took a lightning strike while working on a live cable and woke up as a walking generator. Marvel has always played him as the most ordinary man in Spider-Man's rogues gallery: no genius intellect, no grand philosophy, just a resentful working stiff who discovered he could rob banks and finally be looked at. His crimes are usually about money and, more often, about being taken seriously.
Power-wise he is one of the most dangerous people Spider-Man fights. Fully charged, Electro throws bolts in the hundreds of thousands of volts, rides power lines across a city in seconds, and can black out Manhattan. He has fought Daredevil, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers, and Mark Waid's run gave him a genuinely tragic upgrade — a version whose body could no longer contain the charge, killing people simply by losing his temper.

Comics history
Electro debuted in Amazing Spider-Man #9 (1964) and became a founding Sinister Six member the same year. For decades he was the reliable heavy — powerful, disposable, always short of cash.
Mark Waid and Stuart Immonen's Amazing Spider-Man arc and Dan Slott's Superior Spider-Man run modernised him: an unstable overcharge left Max unable to control the current, turning a bank robber into a mass-casualty event and giving him the one thing he had never had, genuine pathos. Francine Frye later inherited the powers and the codename.

Trivia
- The original green-and-yellow starburst mask is one of Ditko's most distinctive designs and has never been fully retired.
- Spider-Man's most-used counter against him is simply water, established in his very first appearance.
- Francine Frye took over as Electro after absorbing Max's power, briefly making the role a legacy identity.
- Jamie Foxx played Electro twice, seven years apart, for two different studios' continuities.
- At full charge Electro has knocked out Manhattan's power grid, an act treated as a citywide emergency rather than a robbery.
