Jubilee

Jubilation Lee was a Beverly Hills teenager with a shelf of gymnastics trophies and two living parents until hitmen took the parents and the bank took the house. She ran, slept rough in the Hollywood Galleria, and paid for food by pelting mall security with light. When the Australia-based X-Men used the mall's hidden teleport gateway, she followed them home and lived in the base's crawlspaces for weeks before anyone noticed. It was the most Jubilee entrance imaginable: uninvited, unbothered, already family by the time the adults got a vote.

What she found in that base was Wolverine, strung up and half-dead after the Reavers crucified him, and she cut him down. The rescue became the relationship that defines her, Logan's least likely daughter and the only kid who could out-talk him. Genosha's magistrates took them both, and the two of them cracked the X-Tinction Agenda open from inside a slave state. Jubilee has since been a founding student of Generation X, a depowered civilian, a vampire, a single mother and an X-Man again, and none of it has dented the mouth.

Claremont and Marc Silvestri built Jubilee as a way back into a team that had gone grim, scattered and hard to follow: a normal kid narrating the weirdness for the reader. She became the emotional anchor of the Australian era, then the breakout star of Generation X, then a casualty of editorial mood. M-Day stripped her powers, the 2010 vampire war rewrote her body, and Brian Wood's X-Men run handed her a baby to protect. The Krakoa era finally gave the fireworks back. Through all of it she stayed the X-Man new fans meet first, largely because X-Men: The Animated Series made her the audience's eyes in 1992.
