That covers the current Avengers roster, the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, Wakanda, Talokan and a substantial contingent of Fox-era X-Men performers. It is one of the largest announced casts in the studio's history. Peter Parker is not in it, and neither is any other Spider-Man performer.

The Sony Situation, Explained Plainly

Sony Pictures holds the film rights to Spider-Man and has done since the late 1990s. Every live-action Spider-Man film, including the MCU ones, is a Sony release. Holland's appearances inside Marvel Studios films happen under a co-operative arrangement between the two companies rather than because Marvel controls the character outright, and the specific terms of that arrangement have never been made public.

Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon return, joined by Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan, and Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman in roles Marvel and Sony have never announced.

The official synopsis describes Peter fighting crime in a New York that has forgotten he exists, with an unspecified invisible villain threatening the city and the people closest to him. Note that word - unspecified. Every circulating identification of that villain, and every identification of Sink's and Tillman's characters, is rumour. The studios have confirmed none of them, and we have covered that separately rather than folding guesses into this piece.

How To Read The Rumours Between Now And December

Doomsday chatter will intensify sharply once Brand New Day is in cinemas, because a Spider-Man film in the market generates exactly the kind of speculative traffic that rewards confident claims. A short filter helps.

1. Ask who the source is. A named trade outlet is reportable with attribution. An anonymous account with a track record is scooper chatter. A screenshot is nothing.
2. Ask whether Sony is mentioned. Any credible Spider-Man crossover story has to involve Sony, because Sony has to agree. Reports that only cite Marvel sources are describing half a negotiation.
3. Treat trailer frame analysis as worthless here. A masked figure in a wide shot cannot be identified, and Marvel knows that as well as the people zooming in do.
