Character profile
Ironheart
Riri Williams
Fifteen years old, MIT, and a suit of armour built in a dorm room.
Biography
Riri Williams tested into MIT at fifteen and built a functioning powered exoskeleton out of stolen university materials, largely because she was bored and grieving. Her stepfather and her best friend had been killed by a stray bullet in Chicago, and the armour was what she did with that. Tony Stark's reaction, when he found out, was not to stop her. It was to give her a better suit and get out of the way.
Ironheart is the rare legacy character who is not a copy. Riri's engineering is her own, her armour design diverges sharply from Stark's, and her AI assistant was built from Tony's own consciousness pattern, which makes her mentorship situation permanently strange. She has anchored the Champions, appeared across Avengers titles, and moved into the MCU through Wakanda Forever and her own Disney+ series.

Comics history
Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato introduced Riri in Invincible Iron Man #7 in 2016, revealing that a teenage MIT student had reverse-engineered Iron Man's technology in her dorm. Tony Stark sought her out rather than shutting her down, and after Civil War II left him incapacitated she took the lead in the armoured-hero role.
Eve Ewing's Ironheart series in 2018 gave her a proper solo identity, digging into her Chicago roots, her mother, and a magical-technological plot that pulled her well outside Stark's shadow.
Riri has since served with the Champions, appeared throughout Avengers and Marvel's teen-hero books, and become the primary armoured legacy character in a line that already had several claimants.

- Eve Ewing's 2018 Ironheart run pushed her into magical territory, well away from pure engineering.
